Fiat has unveiled a limited edition version of its 500 Abarth. Dubbed the ‘Opening Edition’, it ushers in a welcome power hike and is limited to just 100 units.
It’s not the rumoured 134 kW Fiat 500 Abarth SS, but it certainly is a neat stop-gap between the 101 kW ‘standard’ Abarth and its lesser brethren. The Fiat 500 Abarth ‘Opening Edition’ features a revised version of the Abarth’s 1,4-litre mill and a host of go-faster styling accessories.
The power output of the turbocharged 1,4-litre has taken a welcome hike to 120 kW, while torque climbs to 230 N.m from the standard car’s 206 N.m. Mated with a five-speed manual gearbox, this powerplant is capable of propelling this limited edition model from zero to 100 km/h in 7,4 seconds on the way to a 211 km/h top speed. This shaves half a second off the standard Abarth’s zero to 100 km/h time and adds 6 km/h to the top-end.
Other performance features include perforated disc brakes with uprated pads, stiffened sports suspension and a BMC sports air filter.
In terms of styling extras, the ‘Opening Edition’ sports a new set of 17-inch alloys which can be specified with a white or titanium finish, red brake calipers, custom leather trim and aluminium badging.
Just two exterior colours will be available for this model – Pearl White or Campovolo Grey – and if the exclusivity of this model’s100 unit run is not enough, you can also specify a red chequered flag decal for the roof….if you must.
