Nissan has shoehorned its 2,0-litre direct-injection diesel engine into two of its most popular models: the Qashqai crossover and X-Trail SUV.
The Qashqai is now available in Acenta and Tekna models, with the Acenta sporting similar specifications to its 2,0-litre petrol-engined stable mate and a 4x2 drivetrain. The Tekna ushers in Nissan’s All Mode 4x4 system and is offered with a choice of either leather or cloth interior and 17-inch alloy wheels. The X-Trail’s diesel line up comprises an entry-leve 4x2 XE-badged model, as well as a quartet comprising two SE (mid-spec) and two LE (luxury spec)-badged versions. The XE can only be specified with a six-speed manual transmission, whilst the SE and LE models offer an optional six-speed automatic.
X-Trail owners will be familiar with the All Mode 4x4 electronic all-wheel drive system. This allows the driver to select from three modes (2WD, AUTO, LOCK) using a rotary knob on the centre console. An electronically controlled coupling distributes the required torque to the front and rear axles in accordance with the driver’s selection.
The new 2,0-litre engine featured in both model lines is equipped with a second-generation common rail direct injection and produces 110kW at 4 000r/min and 320 N.m of torque at 2 000r/min. In the Qashqai line up, this engine returns 6,6-litres/100km for the 4x2 model and 7-litres/100km for the 4x4. The X-Trail manual 4X2 returns 6,9-litres/100km, the 4x4 manual records 7,2-litres/100km and the 4x4 automatic 8,1-litres/100km on the combined cycle.
Both the Qashqai and X-Trail diesel models come with a 3-year/100,000 km warranty as well as a 3-year/90 000km service plan with 15 000 km service intervals.
