The current Ibiza Cupra has soldiered on for long enough – Seat has just lifted the lid on the new model, which mounts a twin-charged powerplant.

Wearing the same svelte bodywork as the Ibiza Sport Coupe the Cupra adds a mean-looking set of 17-inch alloy wheels, subtle Cupra decals here and there and a single, additional air vents up front, and a centrally-mounted exhaust pipe surrounded by a diffuser in the rear valance.

These initial shots don’t give away anything with regards to the interior, but expect Cupra sports seats, aluminium pedal trim and an “easy entry” system on the front passenger seat.

Power is provided by a revised version of VW’s cracking little 1,4-litre TSI engine. Mated with a 7-speed DSG transmission, this unit reportedly delivers a hefty 134 kW. The acronymic driver’s aid assault comprises TCS (Traction Control System), ABS with EBA and a (no doubt, lower and stiffer) Cupra suspension set up.

Seat will divulge more about this eagerly awaited model closer to its official unveiling at October’s Paris Motor Show.
