Virgin Mobile USA is upgrading its first affordable 3G mobile phone, Helio Ocean by releasing its brother the Helio Ocean 2 mobile handset. The Helio Ocean 2 combines powerful voice, messaging and data services in a sleek-looking and stylish mobile device. Available starting February 12, 2009, the Helio Ocean 2 will be out for sale with an SRP of $149. The handset will also be available under Virgin Mobile USA’s contract voice and data plans.

Virgin Mobile USA is marketing the Helio Ocean 2 as a social networking mobile handset with several useful social networking features including 3G web surfing, access to Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites, text/IM and email support, side-loaded MP3 playback capability and YouTube watching, GPS-enabled Google Maps, and enhanced video playback with larger screen.

In addition, the Helio Ocean 2 also features a 2.6-inch QVGA screen, mail for Microsoft Exchange support, File Viewer that supports Microsoft Works, Excel, and Powerpoint, a 2MP camera, full QWERTY keyboard, optical sensor directional/navigational pad, 512MB internal memory and support for external microSDTM card.

Other noteable features of the Helio Ocean 2 includesa 3.5mm standard media headset jack for enhanced music listening, stereo Bluetooth wireless, upgraded alert manager, 3D gaming, video ringtones and wallpapers, Opera Mini browser, and other PIM features including calendar, to-do list, notepad, stopwatch, alarm, calculator and clock.
