Hot on the heels of the announcement that a GTA-badged Mi.To is on the cards, Alfa CEO Luca de Meo is now asking Fiat for permission to produce an 8C Competizione that also sports those three famous letters.

At this weeks international launch of the new Mi.To, Alfa Romeo CEO Luca de Meo revealed the company’s intentions to produce a special edition 8C Competizione to celebrate the carmaker’s centenary in 2010. The new car would be Alfa’s equivalent of the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera: a lightweight model with more power than the 331 kW developed by the current 8C’s 4,7-litre V8.Speaking with German publication AutoTelegraf de Meo suggested that this model be limited to a run of just 100 units carrying the company’s famed GTA badge. He has, however, stressed that the plan is yet to be given the go-ahead from Fiat. This latest development appears to fly in the face of de Meo’s earlier insistence that Alfa should not cash in on the huge demand for the 8C coupe and its cabriolet cousin, despite the fact that the entire production run for both models has already been sold out. We’re hoping this attitude will not be held against limited runs of special edition models such as this possible GTA-badged 8C Competizione. We know that de Meo has the corporate clout to have such a project rubber-stamped, here’s hoping that Fiat is willing to play ball.
