Porsche recently updated its 911 range, with the first details concentrating on the “entry-level the Carrera and Carrera S models. Now, the Zuffenhausen-based manufacturer has released the facelifted all-wheel drive Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, in both coupe and convertible form.
Apart from the fact that the Carrera 4 can be distinguished from lesser 911s by its wider rear fenders, red reflector strip joining the LED taillights and LED daytime running lights to team with the standard bi-xenon headlamps, the main difference is the electronically controlled all-wheel drive system that pairs Porsche Traction Management (PTM) with a mechanical rear differential. The Carrera 4 is powered by a 3,6-litre, six-cylinder boxer engine that produces 257 kW, while the 3,8-litre flat-six in the Carrera 4S is good for 287 kW. Both models feature direct injection technology for an increase in power, better fuel economy and reduced emissions levels. Optional on either model, is Porsche’s new seven-speed, dual clutch transmission, dubbed PKD (Porsche Doppelkuppuling). As for the interior, expect a new Porsche Communication Management system as standard fare, boasting support for Bluetooth connectivity, USB devices and iPods – all managed by an intuitive touchscreen interface.According to Porsche SA, the car will be shown in South Africa at the end of October nearer which date pricing will be released.
