Famed Chevrolet Corvette authority Mike “Corvette” Vietro recently had the good folk at Nelson Racing Engines coax a few more horses from the 7,0-litre LS7 V8 under the bonnet of his Mosler MT900S – the result is nothing short of terrifying.
With a power output in the region of 400 kW and well over 600 N.m of torque, the MT900S is no slouch, but the nut jobs at NRE added two turbochargers and when the engine was strapped to a dynamometer, testing proved it produced in excess of 1 200 kW and 2000 N.m of torque at a relatively low 5 600 r/min – 600 r/min shy of the 6 200 r/min peak.. The test was abandoned at the request of the owner after these startling figures showed up on the monitor, but NRE claimed the engine could’ve produced (and handled) an extra 150 kW or so.
Ultimately, NRE built an engine that produces an estimated 1 000 kW on a low boost setting with pump fuel, though the engineers claim that with racing fuel and the resulting higher boost higher boost, it’ll produce as much as 1 350 kW.“Fulfilling this unique request was not an easy task. We spent months perfecting this engine. Ultimately all our hard work paid off and once completed this Mosler will be a one of a kind vehicle, unmatched in power and performance,” said Tom Nelson, owner of Nelson Racing Engines.
